Axson Offers Polyurethane Bi-Component Adhesive Range
January/February 2006
The Adekit adhesives for structural bonding offers abilities and enhancements to the total assembly process while optimising the definition of the structures and allows the simplification of the industrial application processes. Thanks to the multiplicity of catalysts and synthesis, AXSON offers two families of bi-component polyurethane adhesives of different stiffness:

The semi-rigid range, which contains Adekit A280 that allows the quick bonding of metallic inserts onto polyester recreational van bodies and the assembly of License- Free Vehicles. Adekit A280 also offers the ability to bond spoilers and other accessories in custom car applications

The soft range including Adekit A252, which is used to bond armoured car windows, as well as most other thermoplastics after a well-chosen surface treatment, without print-through or crazing effects.

For the automotive industry structural bonding leads to time and structural costs savings while adding improvements in acoustics and aesthetics. For cost reduction, weight saving and production speed purpose, licence-free vehicles consist of an aluminium frame covered with plastic body panels. In order to be bonded, each material must receive a surface treatment, cataphorese for the aluminium, flaming for the polypropylene or degreasing with alcohol for ABS. The two parts are then ready to be pasted with ADEKIT A280, which in minutes allows the assembly to be handled. This surface preparation can be integrated into the production process, which offers fewer problems in the assembly process. Flexible enough to absorb the mechanical requirements, ADEKIT A280 brings a supported stiffness to the whole vehicle, enabling good driving performance and handling. These industrial results are reinforced by the greater options to the designers, who can get rid of rivets or screws, or other fasteners brought by the Adekit bonding technology. This technique has been expanded to other parts of the vehicle, for example the bonding of the windows onto metallic frames treated by cataphorese.

AXSON also offers a full range of Adekit epoxies and methacylate adhesives.
